Heh, you are right at the line between making a fair point and being an ass. Good job.

  2. Lenny F says:

0:06 how exactly do you spell that word? “lathe-ing”?
I’ve always heard it caller turning.

  3. Grant MacLaren says:

Have you looked at blade welders? Makes em’ any length.

  4. 1too3fore says:

Dude, you can get band saw blades custom made and they’re not that much more expensive. But get a better lathe. Why not go on Craigslist and get better made vintage gear? Higher quality, last forever and less expensive than new cheap stuff.

  5. Nathan Becker says:

they sell 62 inch bandsaw blades

your lathe that you are using is not a good lathe I bought one and to start with is what they call the timing wheel was wobbling so bad that I could not run the lathe, I carried it back and got the one that was on display, and got it home and I had not looked at the lathe very closely and my wife said is the lathe supposed to have cracks in the lathe bed and I said no , so I had to carry the lathe back to harbor freight and get my money back and bought the smaller lathe

I’m just getting started in wood turning. Thanks to your video, I got some good ideas. I just purchased the same lathe. Seems pretty rugged. Rockler has the exact same lathe called the “Excelsior” for more money. I’ve been looking for a video on which cutting tool to use for what purpose. I feel a bit awkward right now with holding the cutters at the proper angle and whatnot.

  8. cnccarving says:

drill some tread into your chuk and pull with a treaded rod.. then will work..
but true , beside so many chcks you dont need really a drillchuck in the main spindle

  9. tanukitejon says:

Its more you describing your garage hobbie then instructing people how to start with any standard lathe. And please stop saying My father , my father, my father, my father…. makes you look like a little boy

  10. Ervin Schrader says:

Why don’t you go soak your head. We can’t all be an “expert” like you!

  11. Ervin Schrader says:

Very down to earth advice and information. You are kind of sloppy like me, but thats OK. We can;t all be meticulous. i bought the same lathe haven’t used it yet. Just getting ready. Thanks for a good down to earth video.

  12. theodore willette says:

is there a fucking mosquito in the background?????

  13. dumptonpark says:

Thanks for posting. A wood worker told me that the dust from Oak can give a person Cancer. True or false i dont know, but its something else to worry about lol.

  14. Alan Ball says:

some of the coments ou have made could cause an accident. the fitting in our jacobs chuck which ou say ou have loads of are call morse tapers the one you have is a No2 morse taper, also the thread on your headstock is a 1″ x 8tpi and ou can buy inserts to fit your chucks so they will all fit.stuction on the parts of a lathe also the chucks and tools. you make ourself look

  15. Alan Ball says:

Iv never heard so much crap in all my life, before making a video and putting it on here you need to get some instuction on woodturning lathes and equipment you look an idiot to people who use woodturning lathes for a living,

  19. codyq74 says:

Hi, i’m looking into getting the same model lathe but have a question first. I’m building a work desk especially for it and what i need to know is …How many inches from center of the chuck to table top? I want to use it sitting and not have the table too tall. By looks it may be 15 inches? Any info will help.

  20. Bob E says:

Hello and thank you for the comments and help. Question, are you saying not to mount a chuck on the tail stock. I use a drill chuck on my tail stock all the time for drilling and forstner bits. my spur center comes out and my chuck slide in. I am able to use a chuck on either end.

  21. cheaben3 says:

what type of chuck is the black one at 2:00??
